Crews contain small grass fire along U.S. 36 near Boulder

Firefighters have contained a grass fire that sparked along U.S. 36 near Boulder on Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received calls reporting a fire near U.S. 36, according to a Mountain View Fire Rescue Facebook post. When crews arrived on scene, they found a small grass fire in the shoulder on the south side of the roadway that was spreading up a hill into Boulder open space. Crews got ahead of the fire and, as of about 2:30 p.m., had the fire contained and were working to extinguish hot spots, according to Rick Tillery, a Mountain View Fire Rescue spokesperson.

The fire burned about 1 to 2 acres at the top of the Davidson Mesa in between Superior and Boulder, according to Vinnie Montez, a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. No injuries were reported, according to Montez…
