Docs: Drunk man charged after attempting to disarm officer

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — A man was arrested after he allegedly attacked an officer with the Brownsburg Police Department.

James Justin Devault, 41, was charged with the following:

  • Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer, a Level 5 Felony
  • Battery Against a Public Safety Official, a Level 6 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Public Intoxication, a Class B Misdemeanor
  • Disorderly Conduct, a Class B Misdemeanor

BPD was dispatched on Monday at approximately 6:28 p.m. to Don Julio’s Bar & Grill at the 700 block of E Main St. on a report of a theft in progress.

Upon arrival to the scene, multiple witnesses advised authorities that the suspect was in the restroom after his payment declined.

Officers approached Devault in the bathroom and he allegedly moved his hands towards the policeman’s taser. This occurred a second time with increased hostility, according to court documents. It took three officers to control the suspect enough to handcuff him…
