Powering Mount Pleasant’s future: Dominion upgrades grid as growth continues

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) — Some Mount Pleasant neighborhoods are getting a major power upgrade as Dominion Energy works to strengthen the electric grid, but the construction bringing that change could create temporary impacts for drivers and residents.

The project focuses on the Cainhoy to Hamlin transmission line, which is a part of the system Dominion Energy said serves as the backbone of how electricity moves from where it is generated to the communities that rely on it.

“Our transmission system is the vital link between our generation services, where power is generated, to how that high-voltage energy is distributed across long distances right into the communities that we serve,” Dominion Energy spokesperson Paul Fischer said. “Our transmission system is really the backbone of our energy infrastructure.”…
