Isle of Palms ramps up patrols ahead of July 4th weekend

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCIV) — As the holiday weekend approaches, beach communities across the Lowcountry are stepping up enforcement and patrols in an effort to keep crowds safe.

On the Isle of Palms, locals and visitors may notice an increased police presence through the weekend as the city expects tens of thousands of people for the Fourth of July. “You know, anywhere between 50,000 to 70,000 people we expect on the island over that weekend,” said Sgt. Matt Storen, public information officer for the Isle of Palms Police Department.

“We’re out patrolling the streets,” Storen said. “We’re looking out for anything medical-wise, dehydration, issues with swimmers in the water, rip currents. And then, of course, the city ordinance violations.”…
