Doug Martin’s parents filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in Oakland, California, after his October 18, 2025, police custody encounter. The case names the city, several officers, and the Falck ambulance entities.
Oakland police said the investigation remained ongoing in June 2026. The department declined to comment on pending litigation, and the Oakland city attorney’s office also declined to comment after receiving related questions.

Leslie Martin and Douglas Martin filed the federal case in June 2026. Their complaint alleges excessive force and delayed medical care during their son’s October 2025 encounter with Oakland authorities.
Attorney John Burris said the family wants to know what happened to their son. Oakland police had released several minutes of officer camera footage and 911 calls in March 2026.
