SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City Council approved a moratorium on Monday, June 29, to put a 120-day delay on a decision regarding data center development.
Residents in Springfield voiced their satisfaction with the decision. Derrick Durbin said, “I think that’s a good thing for the community. There is a lot that goes into these AI data centers. A lot of energy, a lot of water consumption. I think the community should be very informed before we proceed with anything.”
Ethan Miller was also interested in the environmental impacts of a data center, saying, “I’m happy they’re taking some time to consider how it could affect our community. There’s a lot that could go into that. Whether or not it’s going to create jobs or disrupt the environment.”…
