Red Flag Warning Issued as Wildfire Smoke Moves Into Boulder County

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for Boulder County on Monday, meaning all open burning is prohibited, including agricultural burning. The NWS warning said “prolonged critical fire weather conditions expected for the high country today and again on Tuesday,” with potential to continue through Friday.

The area is expecting warm, dry air with gusty winds between 15 to 30 mph in the high country and gusts up to 45 mph. High elevated areas with exposed areas are expected to see the strongest winds.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Regional Air Quality Council issued an Action Day Alert on Sunday from Douglas County to Larimer and Weld Counties, including Boulder, Fort Collins, and Greeley. This relates to the air quality as wildfire smoke is in the area from a 28,000 acre wildfire near Mesa County and the Utah border.
