HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – New laws take effect across Virginia on July 1, including measures aimed at reducing dangerous driving and improving pedestrian safety.
One of the new laws creates Virginia’s Intelligent Speed Assistance Program. Under the program, judges can order drivers convicted of egregious speeding offenses to enroll in the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program, or VASAP, instead of simply losing their license.
Before receiving a restricted license, drivers must complete the VASAP program, which educates participants about the dangers of speeding and the new technology they will have in their vehicle.
