Former Olive Branch elementary teacher sentenced for possession of child exploitation materials

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – A former elementary school teacher in Olive Branch has been sentenced for possession of child exploitation materials, the Department of Justice said Tuesday.

37-year-old Mitchell Cantrell was arrested in April 2025 after the Southaven Police Department said they received a tip that he had been downloading inappropriate videos and pictures of children.

According to court documents, Cantrell was downloading and viewing videos of children under the age of 12. He’s been sentenced to nine years in federal prison, with ten years of supervised release afterward; he must also register as a sex offender where he lives, works, and goes to school…
