Ocean Beach is getting a nostalgia-soaked new hangout. Drink 182, an emo- and pop-punk-themed bar and New England-style pizza spot, is slated to open this July. The owners are promising a dive-bar vibe with arcade games, band memorabilia and a soundtrack of scene-era hits that they say will make the room feel like a living mixtape. By day the storefront will serve coffee and pastries, then flip at night into a late-night bar geared toward locals and fans of the emo and pop-punk revival.
Drink 182 is co-founded by creative director Jay Nightride and local bartender Tony Jaw and will operate out of the corner unit at 5049 Newport Avenue, according to reporting. The plan calls for New England “beach pizza” made from homemade dough, built on a thin crust with sweet tomato sauce and provolone, plus coffees and pastries from James Coffee Company. The team is targeting a late-July debut, pending permits and inspections, and is tentatively planning to stay open into the early morning on weekends, as reported by San Diego Magazine.
Where It Lands And What Comes With The Lease
Commercial property listings show that 5049 Newport Avenue has been marketed with a Type 47 full-liquor ABC license and equipment included, which could help speed a new operator’s opening. A flyer from Crexi lists the unit as a turnkey restaurant/bar and notes its existing license and fixtures. Neighborhood reporting earlier this year also pointed to a posted ownership-change notice when the new team filed for approvals, and OB Rag covered the notice and the coming concept.

Nightride, who runs Nightride Visuals and has worked with touring artists, says he wanted to create a room that celebrates music and memory. “What I was looking to build was a place that I would want to be,” he told San Diego Magazine. The owners say the space will include arcade games, TVs and band memorabilia, and they hope the mix of coffee-by-day and nostalgic late-night “drunkables” will draw both longtime scene fans and newer crowds…
