For nearly two decades, Samwon Garden occupied a unique place in Fort Worth’s dining scene.
Opened in 2005 by Own Chung and his family, the Korean restaurant introduced countless locals to dishes such as bulgogi, bibimbap, kimchi, seafood pancakes, and sizzling platters of marinated short ribs. For many diners, it served as an introduction to Korean cuisine; for others, it was the taste of home. Samwon was one of the few restaurants in the area serving Korean food, and expats who couldn’t find it elsewhere often drove for miles to savor it.
The restaurant’s story took a heartbreaking turn in 2022 when Chung died following an accident at the restaurant. His wife, Sylvia, and daughter, Sunnie, kept the restaurant going another three years before closing it in 2025, bringing an end to a beloved chapter in Fort Worth’s culinary landscape…
