Man sentenced to almost a decade in prison for attempted murder

A South St. Paul man will spend nearly a decade in prison for shooting into a Minneapolis clothing store, wounding one person.

Valentino John Gaudalupe Salinas-Avery, 19, was sentenced Monday to 117 months (just under 10 years) at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility, with credit for 292 days served.

According to a criminal complaint, in September of 2025, surveillance cameras recorded Salinas-Avery confronting another customer inside the store before drawing a gun with an extended magazine. The victim also pulls out a gun but runs outside through the front door…
