BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — According to a recent news release, the Boise City Council and Mayor Lauren McLean will consider an emergency ordinance on Tuesday to increase safety on city roads by codifying the use of electric motorcycles (e-motos) within the city limits. The emergency ordinance, if approved, will take effect immediately.
E-motos are two- or three-wheeled vehicles that are over 750 watts or can exceed 28 mph. The ordinance will codify that, as per state law, e-motos are classified as motor vehicles and are allowed only on public roads.
E-motos must also be street legal, meaning they must be titled, insured and registered through the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Anyone operating an e-moto on city streets must have a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement…
