Colorado wildfires prompt firework bans in metro Denver area, southern Colorado, ahead of July 4

With several wildfires ongoing in Colorado ahead of America’s 250th birthday, local fire departments and municipalities are taking measures to reduce wildfire risk from fireworks.

Several municipalities in southern Colorado, where several wildfires were ongoing Tuesday, outright canceled city-sponsored fireworks shows. Woodland Park, Cripple Creek and Ouray all announced the cancellation of fireworks shows recently.

Most fireworks are illegal for personal use statewide in Colorado. That includes any firework that explodes or leaves the ground, and includes fireworks bought in other states, like Wyoming and brought back to Colorado. This ban includes popular firework types such as firecrackers, cherry bombs, Roman candles, mortars, M-80s and bottle rockets.
