Local county governments in Greene, Madison, and Orange counties announced Tuesday that cooling centers will be available on Wednesday and Thursday for those residents who need a place to cool off.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory (heat index values up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit) for Wednesday and an Extreme Heat Watch (up to 110 degrees) for Thursday.
Very hot and humid conditions will result in extreme heat risk across the area, with the hottest conditions most likely Thursday through Saturday (July 2-4). Severe thunderstorms, with damaging wind gusts as the main threat, are possible Friday through Sunday.
