GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After hundreds of cars gathered in downtown Grand Rapids over the weekend, blocking streets and freeways in so-called street takeovers, two men who say they were once involved in that scene are trying to create an alternative option.
The two men, who asked to remain anonymous, described themselves as “retired sliders.” While they previously participated in illegal street takeovers, they say they are now focused on promoting legal car meetups in hopes of giving enthusiasts a safer place to enjoy their hobby.
