SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided long-awaited updates on the renovation of the Salt Lake City Temple.
After two decades of planning and more than six years of construction, the Salt Lake City Temple is passing some major milestones ahead of its 2027 opening.
Earthquake safe
As of Tuesday, the Salt Lake City Temple officially rests on its new base isolation system, a mechanism that is crucial to maintain the structure should an earthquake strike.
“The system is unlike anywhere else in the world,” said Nathan Espinoza, assistant project manager with Jacobsen Construction.
