The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is putting out another warning after a fresh wave of overnight car break-ins. This time around, thieves targeted neighborhoods in northern Kent County. They specifically hit both Cannon and Plainfield Townships, rummaging through multiple cars and walking away with personal property.

As often is the case, many are crimes of opportunity. Thieves sneak around checking for unlocked cars. So yes, step one is lock your doors every single time you park.

And while we know these tips to protect our cars and stuff, it’s always good to have a reminder:

  • Park in a well-lit area if you can
  • Bring your valuables inside (don’t leave them sitting on the seat)
  • Keep an eye out and report suspicious behavior.
