LUBBOCK, Texas — Summer is ending faster than some might expect, as the 1st day of school for Lubbock ISD is on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

EverythingLubbock.com made a list of all new upcoming Principals and Assistant Principals around Lubbock as students and parents prepare to enter the 2026-2027 school year.

Elementary Schools

  • Loren Henderson — Nat Williams Elementary School Principal: Henderson has spent the past decade in our district, serving as a teacher, instructional coach and as the Assistant Principal at McWhorter Elementary School.
  • Daniela Torres — Ramirez Elementary School Principal
  • Heather Thornburg — Roscoe Wilson Elementary School Principal
  • Melissa Hernandez-Serenil — Wolffarth Elementary School Principal: “I’m very excited, and I do so with deep gratitude and a clear commitment to our mission of every child, every day,” said Hernandez-Serenil.
  • Suzanne McCall — South Elementary Principal (Lubbock-Cooper ISD): I am excited to join the Lubbock-Cooper family, where tradition is true, and to be part of a district dedicated to creating a future where students are prepared, confident and ready to tackle the world ahead of them,” explained McCall.
  • Jenci Chambers — Lubbock-Cooper West Elementary School: “Through all of my interactions in Lubbock-Cooper ISD and West Elementary, I can sense the small-town, family atmosphere that already feels like home,” explained Chambers.

Middle Schools

  • Jason Cheslock — Mackenzie Middle School Principal: “I’m deeply honored and grateful for this opportunity to serve Mackenzie Middle School as its next principal – I know we have very important work ahead of us, and there is a sense of urgency in that work,” Cheslock said.
