Organizers behind the effort to recall Gov. Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill are raising money to expand their reach after a dispute with a local advocacy group cost them a $100,000 donation, throwing a wrench in what was already a complex undertaking.
The co-founders of Louisiana Deserves Better, a statewide recall campaign launched in May, said they were unable to access more than $100,000 in donated funds after they rejected the advice of the Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance — which worked to connect the group with potential donors.
The housing alliance, acting as a potential sponsor that could accept the funds on the campaign’s behalf, required the recall group to sign a contract that campaign co-founder Marion Gbaiwon said in a social media post would “strip away their independence” and “steal their grassroots momentum.”…
