A few spotty showers and storms developed around the Captain and Sacramento Mountains late this morning and early afternoon. A few lightning strikes and localized heavy rainfall were depicted on radar. The most abundant moisture will be situated in eastern New Mexico today, which is where primarily where isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop. A few of the storms could turn strong to severe in the east once again. Hail, damaging winds and localized heavy rainfall are possible with stronger storms. Late tonight, the wet weather will shift farther east into west Texas and, as a state, drier conditions will be around to start Thursday.
Tomorrow’s forecast has breezy winds returning to northeast New Mexico and southwest Colorado. Fire weather danger will be apparent once again with gusts that could reach 35 mph coupled with dry surface conditions and the heat. The National Weather Service (NWS) will issue Red Flag Warnings for counties in northeast New Mexico and southwest Colorado from 1-8 pm Thursday. Spotty to isolated showers and storms are forecasted to return to southeast New Mexico and the Sacramento Mountains by tomorrow afternoon once again.
