BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The chairman of the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board is acknowledging mistakes were made after four city-owned swimming pools failed to open this summer, despite the city approving $1.5 million for pool repairs and upgrades just months earlier.
The comments mark the first public explanation from Birmingham Park and Recreation leadership since the city announced four pools would remain closed for the 2026 swim season.
