Louisa, Gordonsville won’t hold Fourth of July parades due to heat

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The forecasted high temperatures Saturday prompted Louisa and Gordonsville to call off their scheduled morning Fourth of July parades, though both towns anticipate still holding their firework shows.

“After careful consideration and consultation with emergency management and public safety officials, the Town of Louisa has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 4th parade,” Louisa announced on its website. “With extreme heat forecasted, the safety and well-being of parade participants, volunteers, first responders, and spectators must come first. Based on current conditions and recommendations from our public safety partners, canceling the parade is the most responsible choice.”
