Trial delay granted in case against former mayor LaToya Cantrell, Jeffrey Vappie

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The trial for former New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has been pushed to next year.

According to court documents, her trial was set to begin in October 2026 but as of July 1, it is now set for March of 2027.

According to court records, one reason for the move was that Cantrell attorney’s requested additional time to prepare. The attorney for her former bodyguard, Jeffrey Vappie, requested the move due to his “current arduous trial calendar.”
