Scammers targeting families of inmates in North Carolina county, sheriff says

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A scam is targeting the families of inmates in Cumberland County, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are contacting inmates’ family members to falsely claim that money must be paid to have the inmate placed on pretrial release.
