PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Several federal prisons, including one in Prince George County, are shutting down because the U.S. government cannot afford the billions of dollars in necessary maintenance needed to keep them open, in addition to staffing challenges.
On Wednesday, July 1, the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) announced the closure of six federal prison facilities, including Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Petersburg Low in Prince George, according to a BOP press release.
