Mint Springs Valley Park Dams Get Safety Overhaul

A makeover at Mint Springs Valley Park is underway and expected to conclude by February 2027.

The nearly $2 million infrastructure project includes critical safety compliance and structural upgrades to the park’s two aging earthen dams after the state determined both had “high-hazard” potential and insufficient spillway capacity.

Albemarle County hired an engineering consultant to conduct a dam break analysis at the park, finding that dam failure could cause flooding to nearby roads, railroad and residential properties…
