Heat Advisory Issued for Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina With Heat Index Values Reaching 107 Degrees This Afternoon

GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — A Heat Advisory is in effect across nearly all of the Upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina region this afternoon, with heat index values forecast to climb between 105 and 107 degrees. The advisory begins at 12 p.m. and remains in effect until 8 p.m., covering nearly every area outside the highest mountain peaks.

Heat Advisory Covers Broad Stretch of Region

The Heat Advisory spans a wide area including Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson in South Carolina, along with Union, Laurens, and Newberry to the east. Gaffney and Chester are also included in the advisory zone, as are Forest City, Shelby, and Lincolnton across the state line in North Carolina.

Greenwood, Hartwell, and Elberton mark the southwestern edge of the advisory coverage, while Winnsboro and Chapin fall along the eastern boundary of the zone under the heat threat this afternoon.

Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynesville are notably excluded from the Heat Advisory, reflecting cooler conditions typical of the higher elevation terrain in the mountains. This creates a clear dividing line between the advisory zone and the mountain communities to the northwest, where heat index values are expected to stay well below the 105 to 107 degree range forecast elsewhere.

Residents Urged To Take Heat Precautions Seriously

With heat index values reaching next-level territory for the afternoon, residents across the advisory zone are being urged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if working or spending time outdoors, and watch closely for signs of heat illness…
