If you own property in San Diego and you’ve been dragging your feet on a code violation notice, the city just gave you a very compelling reason to act fast.
The City Council adopted the 196-page land code overhaul last month, resetting civil penalty limits. The changes affect property owners citywide and cover 134 separate issues—103 citywide and 31 specific to Downtown.
The fine structure, explained plainly
Under the new rules, civil penalties for violating the Municipal Code or applicable state codes can reach up to $10,000 per violation per day—with the actual daily rate determined by the Director or an Enforcement Hearing Officer based on set criteria.
