WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita native and oceanographer Robert Ballard discovered the Titanic on Sept. 1, 1985, after the ship sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912, in the Atlantic Ocean.
Finding the ship was not the main goal of Ballard’s mission, but it ended up making headlines around the world.
