Fourth of July traffic advisory: Several road closures in place

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Thousands of people are expected to gather in Waikīkī on Saturday for the Fourth of July fireworks show, which means several road closures will be in place throughout the evening.

Officials are encouraging anyone planning to attend the celebration or travel through Waikīkī Saturday evening to leave early, expect delays and consider alternate routes to avoid congestion.

Road closures

Kalākaua Avenue will begin changing at 5 p.m., when part of the roadway between Kaʻiulani Avenue and the Kalākaua-Monsarrat split will be restricted.

  • One mauka lane will be kept open exclusively for emergency vehicles, while the remaining lanes will continue to carry traffic

Beginning at 7 p.m., Kalākaua Avenue will close completely from Kaʻiulani Avenue east toward Sans Souci Beach and Dillingham Fountain to make room for the holiday celebration and fireworks display at Kapiʻolani Park.
