ANCHORAGE, AK (Alaska’s News Source) – America’s highly anticipated 250th birthday celebrations are taking over the weekend in Alaska, but some showers are in the forecast. Sunshine will likely peak out for Anchorage by the afternoon, with Southeast drying off just in time for the holiday.
A low-pressure system that originated in Russia is now pushing into Bethel and Dillingham, bringing over 0.5 inches of rain to Southwest Alaska. This rain will taper off into the afternoon as the storm shifts east into Anchorage and Southcentral. Showers will likely begin Friday afternoon in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley around 7 p.m., with the rest of the region seeing showers building through the overnight hours. This rain will begin to dissolve in Anchorage in the early afternoon on July 4, but coastal areas, including Prince William Sound and Seward, will hold onto wet weather through Saturday. Through the day Friday before showers arrive, expect mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies with highs across most of the region near 60 degrees.
Wet weather will sweep through the Southeast today, with the heaviest amounts in Ketchikan. Juneau northward will see light rain and dry conditions by the afternoon, but mostly cloudy skies are going to stick around into Saturday. Light showers will be possible for July 4, but otherwise dry weather is going to take over, letting you get outside and enjoy the day. Temperatures for much of the region will range in the mid-50s to low-60s, but warmer temperatures are ahead next week…
