Roanoke’s Hope Center serving as a cooling center during heat wave

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Hope Center on 11th Street is one of several Roanoke locations opening its doors as a cooling center.

“We are actually a resilience center, which means that our goal here is in the community where we will be a need for the community,” Hope Center executive director Darlene Lewis said. “If it gets too hot, they can bring their whole family in, and they can sit in the cool.”

The Hope Center has plenty of free water bottles available, which are refrigerated before being put in a cooler for anyone outside to grab…
