Laguna Beach to Celebrate Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday

A tradition in Laguna Beach continues next week, as the Tibetan Association of Southern California organizes a day of cultural festivities in celebration of the Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday.

The celebrations will take place at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive, in Laguna Beach on Saturday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. All are invited to attend the celebration, which will include cultural exchanges, traditional Tibetan cuisine and a reflection on the legacy of the 14th Dalai Lama, whose birthday is officially on July 6.

The Dalai Lama was the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet before he was exiled in 1959. Now living in India, he has established the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala and continues to advocate for Tibetan autonomy. The Dalai Lama has become a representation of nonviolence and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989…
