A Bentonville woman recently sentenced in Mexico in connection with the death of an American retiree continues to face pending criminal charges in Arkansas while federal authorities seek her extradition to the United States.
Forty-five-year-old Aurora Phelps was sentenced last month to 37 years in prison by a Mexican court in connection with the disappearance and death of 67-year-old Robert Erbach. Although she was originally charged with homicide, Phelps was convicted of disappearance committed by private individuals.
Phelps remains in custody in Mexico as federal officials seek her extradition to Nevada, where she faces a 21-count federal indictment that includes charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, identity theft, kidnapping and kidnapping resulting in death.
