Officer’s assault was captured on cell phone video as police scrambled to respond
A female police officer was severely beaten by a mob of teens during a “teen takeover” in North Charleston, South Carolina, with attackers using a Roman Candle against her. The 36-second clip, posted by @mattvanswol, shows the officer on the ground as multiple individuals kick, punch, and assault her. Meanwhile, there were green sparks from a firework flying nearby.
The video has gained over 4.5 million views since it was uploaded. It captures the dangerous scene as police backup arrives and officers subdue at least one suspect. The North Charleston Police Department is actively seeking public assistance to identify all individuals involved in the assault.
Assault Took Place Near the Railroad Tracks
The footage begins on a grassy field adjacent to railroad tracks where a group of young Black individuals surrounds and physically attacks a person on the ground. The victim is a blonde female officer wearing dark pants, a dark top and vest, and a dark cap, as this is her law enforcement uniform. After the attack, she was laid on her back and her side on the grass as multiple attackers kick, punch, and hold her down.
