Makeshift vessel catches fire on Lake Martin

ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A makeshift vessel on Lake Martin that was being used as a platform to launch fireworks caught fire Saturday night, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The vessel was a barge that did not have a motor attached. It was anchored in place when it caught fire around 8:45 p.m. near the Tallassee Slough.

The ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division and the Red Hill Fire Department extinguished the fire and recovered the vessel. Those with information on who owns the vessel or details concerning what led to the fire are asked to email the Marine Patrol Division at [email protected]
