BPD commissioner targets party promoter as cause of July 4 violence

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Police Commissioner Erika Shields said that 11 people were shot in Buffalo over the weekend stemming from a block party on Stevens Avenue with a planned “street takeover” at East Delavan Avenue and Grider Street — and the city is looking into action to prevent the promoter from promoting similar events in Buffalo in the future.

“This cannot be who Buffalo is,” Shields said. “I think it’s really important that we don’t leave here losing sight of what caused this to go sideways Saturday night — was the environment and the behaviors of select individuals. They came to the city, to this location, to wreak chaos, and that in and of itself is unacceptable. And that needs to be what we are targeting.”…
