Longtime Southport police chief announces campaign for Marion County sheriff

MARION COUNTY, Ind. — Southport Police Chief Thomas Vaughn has announced his plans to run for Marion County sheriff.

According to a news release, Southport’s veteran police chief confirmed his intention to campaign for Marion County sheriff and succeed current sheriff Kerry Forestal. Vaughn’s law enforcement career began at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office 29 years ago. He moved to Southport in 2014, where he became its chief of police and has served in that role ever since.

The lifelong Marion County resident said his campaign would prioritize public safety, accountability and “restoring public confidence in the agency.”…
