After going to prison himself, Lansing man uses soccer to keep kids out of trouble

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After spending more than a decade in prison, a Lansing man is keeping inner-city kids on the right path through the power of soccer.

On a hot summer day, a simple game of soccer is more than just a sport to Lansing native David Garza; it’s a way to keep kids occupied and out of trouble.

“I got in trouble starting at about 13 years old. Went to prison when I was 18 years old, and when I got out of prison at 30, I was like, I want to make a difference in the community,” said Garza. “So I started finding ways and opportunities to do that, and one of the things that I use is soccer.”…
