Passion fruit cappuccino? New S.F. café opens with creative drinks

A long line of customers waited on July 5 to sip pour overs and cocktail-inspired coffees at Kopê House’s new, pocket-sized café in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley.

“Our first day was awesome. We saw lots of new faces, especially from the neighborhood,” said Jared Hallinan, one of Kopê House’s three co-owners. “We’re super grateful to be open.”

The compact shop at 546 Laguna St. offers special drinks like a passion fruit cappuccino ($7), inspired by the passion fruit-chocolate donut at San Francisco’s Dynamo Donut. The Short and Sweet, an iced, shaken espresso creation, is flavored with red bean puree and amaranth cherry, then dusted with cherry blossom powder. “We wanted to have one drink that resembled a cocktail and looked really pretty in the cup,” Hallinan said.
