Nearly 200 people have been charged, and over 300 individuals have been arrested as part of a new federal law enforcement effort in the Chicago area. The initiative, dubbed “Operation New Dawn,” focused on a 60-day mission starting in May to crack down on violent crime, including robbery, kidnapping, firearm offenses, and fentanyl trafficking.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, the operation was unique because it utilized a “badgeless” approach. Rather than operating under the individual banners of separate agencies, 11 federal departments worked together as a single, unified force under the U.S. flag.
