RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Driver’s Edge, a Nevada-based nonprofit aimed at reducing teen crashes, is returning to Reno July 23 -26 for its 24th year of events in the area, offering free defensive driving instruction for young drivers at the Regional Public Safety Training Center.
Organizers say 2026 has already been a deadly year on roadways and they hope the program can help reverse that trend. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says motor vehicle crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens nationwide and in Nevada.
The program combines classroom lessons with behind-the-wheel training focused on skid control, evasive lane-change maneuvers, anti-lock braking skills and panic braking. It also includes instruction on the dangers of texting and other distractions, with added emphasis on pedestrian awareness and fatigued driving, plus written tests given before and after students get behind the wheel…
