Alaskans will celebrate one of the state’s most recognizable symbols this week as Alaska Child & Family hosts its annual Alaska Flag Day fundraiser in Anchorage.
The celebration honors the Alaska state flag, which first flew on July 9, 1927, after a design created by 13-year-old Benny Benson was selected while he was living at the Jesse Lee Home, now known as Alaska Child & Family.
