CoreCivic sells Otay Mesa Detention Center to Department of Homeland Security

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — CoreCivic, a private prison company, announced Monday they sold two California detention facilities to the federal government for $1.5 billion.

The transaction includes the California City Detention Facility in California City for $732.6 million and the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego for $739.2 million. Both centers, which are used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, are being sold to the Department of Homeland Security.

“The process was marked with rigor and integrity,” CoreCivic Public Affairs Senior Director Ryan Gustin shared in a statement. “The facility valuations were established through the federal government’s required appraisal process, which is designed to determine objective fair market value.”…
