More than 75 years after he was found murdered along a rural Pottawattamie County road, the killing of Council Bluffs taxi driver George Massouris remains one of Iowa’s most haunting unsolved cold cases.
George James Massouris, a 30-year-old World War II veteran, husband, and father of three, was working a part-time shift for the Red Top Taxicab Company on the evening of Nov. 18, 1950. He had returned to the taxi office shortly after 9 p.m. to pick up what would become his final fare—a scheduled pickup outside First Christian Church in Council Bluffs.
Massouris was never seen alive again…
