Auditor: New Orleans faces $700M pension hole; warns sanitation fees could rise

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans has made progress climbing out of a financial crisis, but a new state audit says problems remain with sanitation fees and firefighter pensions.

Louisiana Legislative Auditor Michael Waguespack said the city has narrowed its projected deficit since his office stepped in last September to to help review city finances.

“After the audit was all said and done, we’re learning now the change is more like $130 million, so that’s a good surprise,” Waguespack said…
