Density, traffic concerns at heart of debate over Shawmut Hills townhomes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A proposed townhome development on Grand Rapids’ West Side has sparked concerns from neighbors about density, traffic and drainage.

Developer Adam Rogalski is looking to build 16 single-family attached buildings, for a total of 32 new units, at 2450 7th St. NW near Oakleigh Avenue in the Shawmut Hills neighborhood, according to a Grand Rapids Planning Commission agenda packet. The developer intends to add a new private street, which will connect to 7th Street, in addition to sidewalks and 75 on-site parking spaces, the plans show.

Rogalski is seeking special land use approval and a reduction of the required wetland setback from the planning commission. A public hearing on the requests is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at City Hall.
