11 arrested in California in India-based organized crime group investigation

Charges and arrests were announced Tuesday in Los Angeles against suspected members of transnational organized crime groups based in India that allegedly were involved in targeted killings, narcotics trafficking, extortion and other crimes.

Law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates that the charges are part of indictments under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The investigation led to multiple arrest in California and locations out of the country.

The more than two dozen defendants, including 11 people in California, were connected to three crime groups based in India that engage in racketeering, targeted killings, shootings, extortion, the trafficking of narcotics across international borders, and other crimes around the world, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
