PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Marion County officials issued a warning to residents on Tuesday to avoid contact with bats after a bat found in the area tested positive for rabies.
Rabies is a viral disease that can spread to people and pets through a bite or scratch of an infected animal, officials explained.
While post-exposure vaccination is effective, the county says prevention is the best way to protect people and pets.
